Specialist Community Eye Services in Kent
Expert Eyecare, Closer to Home
At Kent Eye Care, we’re proud to deliver a range of specialist community ophthalmology services right here in Larkfield. Our experienced, independent prescribing (IP) qualified optometrists are trained to assess, treat, and manage a wide variety of eye conditions – meaning you don’t always need to travel to hospital for specialist care.
We work closely with local GPs, the Kent and Medway NHS health authority, and hospital eye departments to provide safe, efficient, and convenient care in a community setting.
Emergency Eyecare Appointments
If you have sudden eye problems such as pain, redness, flashes and floaters or blurred vision, our specialist optometrists provide an emergency Acute Primary Care Ophthalmology service (APCOS), looking after patients from GP surgeries across the entire Kent & Medway CCG area.
As independent prescribing qualified optometrists, we can prescribe medication to treat many eye problems, such as red eye, uveitis, foreign bodies and corneal ulcers.
Patients can be referred by their GP, optician or self-refer to this service. For patients not registered with a Kent & Medway CCG GP, they may still attend one of these clinics on a private basis.
If more advanced treatment is needed, we’ll arrange prompt onward referral and ensure you’re supported every step of the way.
Glaucoma Monitoring
Our specialist optometrists are trained to diagnose and manage ocular hypertension, suspected glaucoma, and established glaucoma. With independent prescribing qualifications, they are able to prescribe any medication required for the treatment of eye disease.
If you are registered with a GP in West Kent and would prefer your ocular hypertension or glaucoma to be managed at a convenient time, with continuity of care, regular follow‑up, and clinical expertise—rather than attending crowded hospital clinics—you can speak to your optician or GP about being referred to the Community Ophthalmology Team clinics at Kent Eye Care.
Other Clinical Services
As part of our community eyecare offering, we also help manage:
- Dry eye and blepharitis
- Suspected cataracts
- Red or uncomfortable eyes
- Visual field concerns
- Monitoring of diabetic retinopathy
If you're unsure whether your symptoms require urgent attention, just call – we’ll advise you on the next best step.
